Gentlemen - I have a L.C. Smith 16 gauge FW made in 1939, and the chamber measures 2.5". Is there a good source for light shells that you can suggest? I would prefer not to buy a MEC loader and size reducer for the relatively low volume shooting we plan to do with it. It will be my son's dove and upland gun. Many thanks! Tom

Tom, Aside from producing the best quality shells for your classic double, the staff at RST Morris, Alex, Jill, & the rest of the crew are very knowledgeable and can assist you with your needs.I've been shooting RST ammo for quite some time in all their gages and have been very pleased. That said, the folks at RST are just Great people to deal with.

rstshells.com for prices and shipping information. You will see a mention on the website about a retailer that will sell the shells by the box by mail. Where do you live? Maybe you have a stocking dealer near you.

Bill - Thanks for the heads up, and I live in Richmond VA. I will call them directly for info on chamber pressure etc. Looks like the best thing to do is just order a case of light 2 1/2" shells. Tom

Just for the sake of competition, you might also look at Polywad. I have shot many flats of vairious short chamber ammo from them and have been very pleased.

Polywad is just a name on a website, the RST folks are people we all know and who's company we enjoy. I've sure never sat and smoked a cigar with Polywad, Morris on the other hand..... DLH

I have to admit that I test fire RST ammunition, have participated in pressure testing of RST ammunition, and shoot RST ammunition in most of my vintage guns. However, even though the proprietors of RST Shells have given me cigars for my time and trouble in testing and promoting their product, I wouldn't smoke a cigar if my life depended on it. I have given away every cigar that Morris Baker has ever given me. Yes, I would recommend you use what I do, the RST stuff.

First let me say that I enjoy a good cigar as much as anyone, but that's not why I use someone's product. I would say that it is somewhat short sighted to dismiss a product (Polywad) because of their marketing plan. Like Bill I have been involved with field testing several of the Polywad products on live birds and have been very impressed for the most part. Unlike MarketHunter I have had the opportunity to sit and talk with Jay Menefee (President of Polywad) and respect him very much as an entrepreneur and shotshell innovator. My point is you should not judge a book by it's cover or ammunition by the vendors presence or absence from sporting clays events. Personally, I would purchase ammunition from either of these companies and have confidence in their product.

Terry, Sorry if you took what I said hard, but I stand by it. Morris and Alex are great guys and are two of the faces of our doublegunning hobby. When I consider somebody a friend that's who I buy from and that's who I suggest others buy from when they ask. I sure never saw the president of Polywad at the UP Side by Side Classic visiting with the boys. Destry

Destry, Maybe his absence from the UP Side x Side was a direct result of your presence!! All jokes aside, both RST and Polywad make great ammo for our vintage guns. The only negative aspect of Polywad is they will not allow a customer to pick them up at their shop. I live an hour away and have to pay for them to ship ammo to me.
