Chris, 1901 would be the correct year. Your escutcheon should look like a banjo as this was the second style ejectors. If it was the first style it would have what is called a "clam shell" shaped escutcheon. The roller part should be steel, not brass, maybe the case colors give it the appearance of old brass. What I would do is is get someone to help you, have them hold the barrels on a towel and then roll the roller towards the barrel, and with your other hand reach towards the end of the forend wood and put your index finger in the depression and pull the forend up. If it still is tight, take a thin bladed screwdriver and wrap some electrical tape, duct tape around the shank, put this in the opening where your index finger was and roll the roller again towards the barrel while gently pulling up on the screwdriver. Go easily and it should come off. MAKE SURE that the roller is moving towards the muzzle, if not you will not get it off.
