Unusual L C Smith ?

I recently came across a gun that is not listed
in any of the price guides and wondered if anyone
knows if this is a factory built gun. It is a 12
ga. with 32" barrels marked on the bottom of the
barrel lug "WILD FOWL", on the barrel it is stamped 3" Chamber. On the water table below the serial number is a stamped "W". Any information
on this gun would be appreciated.

I have been told that the Wildfowl LCS should take any modern 3" load as they were heavy proofed when built. Is this correct?

In 1922, Western Cartridge Co. intoduced the 'Super-X' 12 gauge 3 inch shell with 1 3/8 ounces of shot, and the 2 3/4 inch 1 1/4 ounce 3 3/4 dram equiv. load. Peters Cartridge Company's 'High Velocity' and Remington's Kleanbore 'Nitro Express Extra Long Range' loads soon followed. By the fall of 1923, Hunter Arms was advertising the new "L.C. Smith Long Range Wild Fowl Gun." 12 years later, Winchester/Western brought out the 1 5/8 ounce 12 gauge 3 inch magnum.
