David. I'm really looking forward to the article. Here it is 100 years after WWI, and we're still debating over where sxs barrel tubes were made. Yesterday, I was talking w/"Mr. Damascus", whose name I'll not mention for security reasons. He's pictured on page 1031 of THE PARKER STORY and is well known in the Parker community. We started talking about barrel tubes. I asked him after WWI where Parker's barrel tubes were made. He said that Parker made them. The last I heard, Parker stopped making tubes because it was economically unviable. So, where/who made them after WWI? The thought occurred to me that maybe we weren't suppose to know where 'some' American bell tubes were made. For years L. C. Smith was promoting European barrels as the best. Then, suddenly their European supply source dries up and was shut down by the German invasion of Belgium. Then they had to use an unknown manufacturer, America. So, suddenly Hunter Arms had to promote the sale of - here's an analogy - "New Coke" rather than the old tried and true "Real Coke" which was an epic marketing disaster. My recollection is that one American brand even made steel barrels and put Damascus markings so that they would sell easier. So, here we are 100 years later trying to find out who were the American manufacturers of American barrel tubes. Just a thought folks. The story will continue. Best regards. Roger
