As has been noted many times, Hunter Arms would build a gun with just about any option specified by a customer. Many examples exist to support this assumption. It is also possible to add checkering at a later date that appears to be factory original if executed by a highly skilled craftsman. If it is one of the correct patterns, is perfectly executed and matches the butt stock, it becomes a matter of personal opinion. If it looks original to you, it probably is. I do not know how unusual such an example would be.
