16 ga field - chambers Archived Message Posted by rfraley on August 7, 2017, 4:36 pm My father in-law gave me his 16 ga field and I'd like to know a little more about it. The SN is FWR 49XX which I think makes it 1919? The barrels are 26" with the left stamped MOD. It was his step father's gun and came with both 2-9/16 and 2-3/4 shells. My depth caliper shows the chambers are short of 2-3/4. Is it possible that obsolete 2-3/4 shells were OK in this shotgun?
