And by the way, when I examined the original Quality C frame, I saw no evidence of this gun having ever been near a fire; and thus cannot be convinced otherwise that fire was the reason this gun was converted. In fact, when I removed the original lock plates for examination; the internals had survived, and remained in perfect and crisp condition. The outside of the frame had rusted, and stock finishes were gone; but not to the point that it was un-salvageable as is evidenced from your photos. It's my opinion that the second owner simply preferred the new-fangled hammerless model over an outdated hammer model and made a deal with Hunter to use those barrels as the basis for the hammerless ejector gun he wanted. In it's hammerless configuration, it was obvious the gun had seen lots of use after it was rebuilt; but its original integrity still remained, and this Smith continues to be one of the most interesting Smith guns I've ever seen.
