Sporting Life, Jan. 23, 1897 Mrs. M. F. Lindsley (Wanda), wife of Milt Lindsley, the King’s smokeless powder maker, was presented with a beautiful L.C. Smith gun for a Christmas present, by the Peters Cartridge Co., and King Powder Co. of Cincinnati.
This could be the gun. From Leslie's Weekly Illustrated, N.Y., May 4, 1899, taken at the 1899 GAH. Note the handguard
“Some People We Know” Written for the Sportsmen's Review by Mrs. M.F. “Wanda” Lindsley
Having a little time to spare I offer the reader some news here and there, Of people of note and wide renown, All well known in many a town.
I notice that Crosby's not shooting for fun When he enters a match with his Baker gun. And J.A.R.E. from a small town out west Is as good as they make them, if indeed not the best.
Quiet Fred says not a word Just goes out and kills all his birds. Then there is Dan LeFever and Courtney as well, The one builds good guns for the other to sell.
As a salesman, King Tuck is as good as they make And the Parkers are pleased with the orders he takes.
And Rolla who hails from the wild, wooly west With his banjo and gun, can't say which he plays best. But of one thing I'm certain, the boys like him well And to his marksmanship none can excel.
Here's hoping I'll meet you again, as before, On the trapshooting field in a battle for gore. I'll write no more words nor close with a song I just hope I haven't kept you too long.
