I made a device that clamps on the side side of the frame to manage this chore. I drilled and tapped a 10-32 hole to take a cap screw that compresses the spring, and drilled the stock to take a wire between the spring and the slot to keep the spring compressed. There's a web page by Mike Orlen that describes the procedure in detail. Mike also did some excellent barrel work for me, and I recommend him. Very quick turnaround, and reasonably priced.
