    Research Letter/Grade 3 Archived Message

Just joined the association and am going to go ahead and order the research letter, but wanted am wondering how much information is available.

I have a Grade 3 with steel barrels, 12-gauge, manufactured in 1898. S/N is 44xxx. Straight grip, nice wood. Quail on one side, woodcock or snipe on the other. An ivory disk was inlet into the forend in addition to the ebony in the tip. Barrels are 30 inches, x-full and x-full with extractors and double ivory beads. At some point, it was apparently sent back to Hunter and the chambers were opened. A reinforcing bar was put in place between the forend lug on the barrels and the hinge and stamped 3 C (3-inch chambers?). I assume maybe it was a pigeon gun or someone's fancy duck gun...

Am sending it off for cleaning, inspection, etc., and won't be shooting 3" shells through it at all. Just wondered if anyone had heard of this before.

    Thanks for the help.
