    Steve, it would be nice if we could use an original butt plate for our guns that do not have them. The problem is that they were all hand fit and highly unlikely that they would fit on your gun. If one was slightly oversize, then yes it might fit, but doubtful.
    The original would have horizontal lines on it and stop right below the screws. The screws from drawings state a #12 1 1/4" long. The threads on early butt plates would be straight and later tapered like the wood screws we see now. The head would be a planish head (oval head) and blued. The orientation of the screw slots would be to the length.
