"Ideal" was recorded in the L.C. Smith Gun Company ledger for this serial number. However, a horizontal line was drawn above "Ideal" and "Field" was entered above that line. I've not noticed any other entry like this. I suspect that it was shipped with Field Grade barrels, but I have no idea why this was done.
