    I agree with John. It seems more like a marketing decision to suggest cocking the gun by installing the forend.
    That said, someone with some experience showed me a trick that makes it easier to install the forend on an uncocked gun. Hang the barrels on the hinge pin as normal. With the gun open, position the J-spring in the barrel lug, and the iron over the cocking arms. While holding the forearm carefully in place, with some pressure between the tip of the forearm and the barrels. Gently close the gun the gun while pressing the forearm toward the barrels. The forearm snaps on as the barrels close, and the gun is cocked.
    Note that I don't recommend this, but it seems a lot gentler than snapping the forearm on a closed gun in an emergency.
