Ah, you are a man after my own heart. I own two damascus guns, an Elsie O grade and a Parker GH. I shoot them both, but it took me about five years of study and reading to finally decide to do it. I found Sherman Bell's articles in Double Gun Magazine and read and re-read them and came away thinking that Damascus barrels are stronger than once believed. At first I shot them with RST shells, which is wonderful, and then I went to standard low pressure target loads. Bell did his best to blow up a dozen damascus guns even with modern proof loads and couldn't get it done, unless there was an obstruction in the bore, but any shotgun will let go if that happens. I shoot these old guns with confidence, but I'm shooting light loads. If I'm shoot heavy loads I shoot a modern gun.
