    Appraisals for insurance Archived Message

Where does everyone get appraisals in order to insure their LC Smith shotguns? I have a 1923 Trap Grade 20, with 26 inch barrels and the HOT. Its one of about 150 in that configuration. It is currently being restored to 100% by Bill Schwarz, and with the exception of an aftermarket stock, was untouched. It still has the 2 1/2" chambers, barrels measure .614 and .615, and chokes measure .595 and .605. .......... Pretty much standard configuration from the factory as far as I, or Bill, could tell (Bill said it has some of the best barrels he's ever seen). I have the letter from the Cody museum as well verifying the configuration of barrels, HOT, etc. The problem is Ive seen similar guns recently listed from anywhere between $4500 to over $9000+ (that was a Kevins listing, so you can probably cut that price in about half). Im worried if I take it to a regular appraiser they will have no idea what the gun is, and especially what its worth. I know I can use the Blue Book, but that doesn't seem to correlate with current asking prices (I understand asking price and selling price are two different things).... Do you guys have any ideas?
