Single Shot 12 Patent Date August 17, 1896 or 98Archived Message

The left side is stamped The Hunter just below and near where the action opens. It has a hammer and action release on the top. It has a "12" stamped into the bottom of the barrel just beyond the forearm. It also has a small lever at the bottom front on the right side of the action. It has a thin metal butt plate and a rounded pistol grip. I have not even tried to open the action and have not disassembled the shotgun to see if other identification marks are present. The old shotgun has been in the family for generations but I am not sure if it was purchased new or not. It was just given to me by an elderly Aunt *87) who can no longer relate the history of this shotgun. Any help with the manufacturing origin would be appreciated. I have taken several pictures of very good resolution if they would be helpful but have not posted them online and could not see any way to just post them into this message from my computer. Thanks, Bill
