Here is my understanding of this one: You take the barrels off the frame and hang them from the index finger of one hand by the barrel lug. Knock each barrel with a knuckle on your other hand and you should hear a gentle ring like a bell. Generally this is to prove that the ribs and lugs or and anything attached to the barrels are not loose. Ringing like a Bell is a good sound buzzing or vibrating or any sounds of blues or moving parts is a bad sound. I don't know what the standard is if you just get a dull thump but I don't usually let that concern me too much.
