Tom, oh what a question. There are a lot of good bird dogs. Remember breeding is important. A dumb dog with no hunting instinct is a dumb dog no matter the breed. I wanted a dog that did not shed much, could be in the house, was a pet however when in the field is 100% business. Not to big 35 to 40 lbs, Pretty good watch dog ( not mean but very protective of family) Points, retrieves, and flushes on command. I settled on the Braque du Bourbonnais....check out Cactus Kennels in Tucson AZ. tell them "Lucy " (my dog) sent you.
