    I did say "hammerless" didn't I... sorry, I meant hammer gun. The fact that it says Syracuse on it is important. I was a little unsure about your serial number and hoped you'd provide some barrel/stamp information. Hunter Arms Hammer guns started in the 27,000 series, just after yours and supposedly not until 1895, but personally I think there may be some confusion in the serial number records. Does it have steel barrels? Damascus barrels normally weren't stamped during the Hunter Arms era. There isn't much serial number information prior to Hunter Arms but it appears that Hunter continued the Syracuse Hammer gun serial number series. I'm almost certain they continued making Hammer guns somewhere between 1890 and 1894. Yours may be one of those and there will be considerable interest on this site about it. Pictures would be great!
