Before the late 1930s, 16 gauge bores ran about .650 inch. Later bores were typically .662 inch. So a bore gauge may or may not give you a correct indication of choke. Only way to be sure of the design choke is to use a bore gauge to measure the bore both in the choked area and in the barrel before the bore begins to taper to the choke. Of course, the only way to be sure of the actual choke is to pattern the barrels. And yes, I am almost certain there were L. C. Smiths choked X-Full and X-Full.
