My son has been shooting side by side events since he was 8. He is always treated like a king by everyone. Last year Paul Harm sent him a trophy in the mail as the only youth shooter in the "duck boat challenge" his favorite event.

We may or may not be shooting at Hausmann's this year, and unfortunately it has to do with cost. I realize there is a premium to participate in these events, but for my boy to pay over a buck a target to shoot 50% is hard to swallow. Almost all the clubs we shoot at give a significant discount to youth shooters. It seems like the bigger shoots are mostly held at commercial venues, and they aren't as interested in drawing youth as the "clubs" are.

Don't get me wrong, or take this the wrong way, I am blessed in my life and can easily afford to shoot if we decide to do so. We are headed to Blue Ridge for the side by side day next month. It will cost my son $12 for 100 targets. That is how you get dads and grandpas and uncles to bring the kids along. Entry fees pile up fast when you pay for two of them, and my daughter is 6, so I will be paying three soon enough.
