Jim Stubbendieck has researched surviving shipping records in-depth as regards the A-1. The A-1 was still being made in limited numbers on a special order basis 3-4 years after the last catalog listing for this grade; there is evidence that some A-1's were manufactured with steel barrels and Type II ejectors. A fair number of A-1 guns were retrofitted with steel barrels at a later date by Hunter Arms; and although steel barreled A-1's are uncommon, examples are not considered rare.
