In the spirit of your granddad's poor NC dirtfarmer background, let me suggest a proper repair. Start a length of copper wire along the side of the pistol grip from rear to front, leaving at least in inch at the rear for finishing of the repair. Make a small loop at the front and feed the front end of the wire through the loop. Bring the longer end of the wire through the trigger guard as far forward as possible without contacting the trigger. Wind about as tightly as possible around the grip until you get to the rear of the broken part. Twist the two ends of the wire together, tightening the coils. Solder the twist of wire as closely to the wood as possible and then file the sharp ends smooth. This repair will last much longer than the present repair and give a touch of class to the entire gun. The copper wire can be polished if you wish. This repair is much more in character with your gun than a $2500 restock.
