My L C Smith LONG RANGE with 32 inch barrels and 3 inch chambers FEELS heavier then my standard 32 inch barreled 12 gauge L C Smith. We would need to weight 20 or 30 sets of barrels to get a good scientific sample and compare the standard 12 gauge barrels to the 3 inch mag 12 gauge barrels. My gut feeling is that there is more steel in the LONG RANGE barrels. That extra steel/weight I am sure is in the barrel walls but I could be wrong. The extra weight could be from some other source like the ribs or the solder under the ribs. Just a few days ago I was opening the chokes on a set of 3 inch mag, 32 inch long, 12 gauge L C Smith barrels that were marked 3 inch correctly BUT these barrels were not LONG RANGE or WATER FOWL barrels. The serial number on the set of barrels that I was opening the chokes on is 318XXX and marked "OO". These barrels might very well be a set of barrels built for an older shotgun by the factory and added to an older shotgun by the factory. Good Shooting To You, Jent
