Robert, One important step if you need to re-blue after removing the rust. Make sure that you have removed all remnants of oil from the gun before applying the blue. I use brake parts or carb cleaner. it minimizes streaking of the bluing. Also, usually multiple coats of bluing is necessary and between applications I lightly buff with dry 0000 steel wool, then degrease again between coats. As David said, heat the metal with a hair dryer between coats. I use the Brownells product also.
