12 ga. was always 2 3/4" and some are 3". The 3" chambered ones will have Chamber 3 Inches in an oval on the barrels water table. 16 ga was 2 9/16" chambers until late 1930's. I have a 1939 with the Single Sighting Plane that still has 2 9/16" chambers. The bore on this one is .662. Earlier 16 ga were .650 and this changed sometime in the 1930's also. 20 ga. was changed from 2 1/2" chambers to 2 3/4" sometime in the mid 1930's. Bores were always .615. While we are at it, 10 ga. was 2 7/8" chambers and bores were .785 There are a few members here that have 16 gauges that have 3" chambers stamped on them. Also when the change came about most if not all were the stamped 2 3/4 chambers.
