L. C. Smith Field Grade Archived Message Posted by John Vickers on January 7, 2011, 11:50 am 71.229.11.181 First off, I'm new to L.C. Smith shotguns.I am looking at a Field Grade, SN FW 20139. The gun is tight and in fair shape. My primary question is about the safety. This safety has 3 positions. It's an automatic safety, and resets properly when the gun is opened. However, the safety can be moved back one more notch beyond the S showing in the hole in the slide. Is this normal or is something wrong? I also am somewhat confused about the year of manufacture. If I looked correctly the serial number indicates 1949 as the year of manufacture. However this gun has Hunter Arms Company Fulton NY, USA stamped on the left barrel. Any help is much appreciated.
