    Tom, I am the smith that made Jerry's firing pins. The original pin would mushroom in the rear, where the hammer struck it. Then it would jam in the hole and you could not get the gun open. The plans and spec book calls for drill rod, but does not say what kind of drill rod or what hardness. I made one with oil quench. It broke right away. Next was drill rod without any heat treatment, that lasted almost 8 months, but it broke also. Now I used 4130 steel and we will see how long that lasts. By the way 4130 steel will eat hack saw blades.
