    Perhaps it's best to say that the consensus is that they're different.

    Hunter guns seem to have been better finished and used generally better wood overall. Marlin guns are just as safe, but they seemed to cut small corners here and there.

    What we need to remember is that the design of our beloved Elcees demanded much hand work. Whether Hunter or Marlin it made no difference.

    So it all comes down mostly to final finish. Just as with Hunter guns, some Marlins are better than others.
