Thank you Dr. Drew, I feel like a just sat in a MIT lecture on mechanics and forces- Glad you feel this question thread I started, as a new member of the LCSCA might be of interest in the FAQ section. To carry it a bit further, the sideplated but not sidelock action, in the sense of the L.C. Smiths, the first series LeFevers- also have some form of a cross bolt, but from the few I have seen, the engagement was at the rear of the rib extension, and not in a tapered through hole. Some of those LeFevers and the first series of the Ithaca NID gunsd had cocking indicators, did any series of the Smiths ever have that feature- to my mind, and gun that is closed is to be considered as being BOTH cocked and loaded-but there must have been some reason for the extra parts and machining required for those said indicators.
