This is just my "WAG" but in Jack O'Connor's shotgun book circa 1965- he talks about old barrel men able to give different patterns depending on shot sized and loads, from the same set of tubes-Jack was close with Lou Smith of Ithaca- perhaps it was the Ithacas he was referring to- "Castus Jack" was not bashful- he sure Boosted the M70 and the M21-once even asked John Madsen at a writers "pow-wow" at Nilo Farms- "Madsen, how much is Remington paying you to work for Winchester" ?? I'll wait until my new membership comes through and I receive the "pages" and then I'll list some o.p. duplicate gunning books I have for sale- one is a first ed. of Jack's "The Shotgun Book" as I don't really need two. He did speak about his grandfather's friend in AZ with a High-Grade Smith 16 bore!!
