    Kevin,
    Congratulations on your purchase of the Grade 2. I believe that the barrels were originally blued or black/white with Damascus and most of the receivers now through use have turned a pewter finish.
    Refinishing is up to you, In my opinion if it is in nice condition leave it alone, and please do not polish or you will loose detail in the engravings.

    Post some pictures of it.

    I myself just got a Grade 2E circa 1899 with 30" Crown Steel barrels, straight stock and the engravings are different than most, it has quail on the right side in a circle and woodcock on the left side in a circle. The clam shell release is nicely made and I can see why it was discontinued, too expensive to make.
