On second thought... You failed to mention the receiver. I assume it's blued. If case hardened, then I'd probably consider the locks to be questionable. Is the "L. C. Smith" sharp and distinct, or do the letters have a somewhat soft appearance? Again, I've learned never to say never, but all of the somewhat non-standard guns I've encountered have had a matching overall finish. I'm much more familiar with Hunter products from the Depression era than later guns. Certain "discoveries" from 30's era gunscame my way as a matter of circumstance. This when I took my "girls" to Ithaca Gun in the 80's. I learned that the Hunter catalog wasn't necessarily the last word as far as options go. This from gentlemen who were on a first name basis with the men who made my guns a half century before. Strangely, the information supplied by the gentlemen at Ithaca was more or less confirmed by Bert Hartman at Gunbroker the other day. He collects Winchesters and the finish question was put forward. As in the case of my guns it had to do with a nickle finish and originality. His reply was that such finishes were not uncommon, though seldom listed as a factory option. Hope I've clarified the issue a bit and not steered you in the wrong direction.
