I hope that you all can help me out. I have been looking for my first Elsie for about 2 years now. I finally spotted a local add and acquired a gun but I’m not sure what I have yet. I just now joined the collectors association and I live in Tulsa. What I know about this gun: “Good” Damascus barrels Extractor (it looks like it has been making firing pin contact for the better part of 100 years) Regular frame (I think) Barrels marked ‘4’ over ‘5’ Marked “0” grade 12 Gauge No engraving whatsoever (none) Serial numbers match (barrels, frame, fore grip). I have not taken the stock off, but it looks vintage too. Serial number is 312XXX (6 digit) .5% case color left 40% of barrel browning left Checkered top rib Firing pin bushing (only one left) in brass Brass bead front sight Missing right bushing and firing pin Left firing pin looks flattened Based on my limited research, I have some questions about my new friend: 1. My serial number is in the 1907 rages but that disagrees with the brass bushing on the pin (per Houchins this stopped in 1905). How can this be? 2.My grade looks to be 0, but my gun has not engraving. Do I have something weird? 3.The story is that the original owner took one pin out in order to shoot skeet. Was that a common practice? Pic (if this link works): http://picasaweb.google.com/Torgoknee/Elsie1907?authkey=Lmn1c63Qkb8
