Some L.C. Smith and Fulton 16 gauge guns manufactured as late as 1939 are still found to have 2 9/16" chambers Jimmy. No reason not to shoot 1 oz 2 1/2 dram (1165 fps) loads like the Federal Game Shok. I would have a doublegun specialist smith do a good check and clean, and examine the head of the stock for cracks first however.
