    opening the chokes Archived Message

I have resisted and fought the urge, but now I'm giving in. I am all for keeping old things in theie original configuration, but I am going to open the chokes on my grade 2 and grade 3 guns. The grade 2 is .695 in the right barrel and .680 in the left. The grade three is .680 and .680. The only reference book I have for Smith Guns is Brophy's. On p.159, left column, 3/4 way down he quotes Hunter Arms, "For a good shot the full choke is recommended, as in such hands it is beyond question the most effective..." I am no expert shot, only average. I wonder how many more doves I could have hit yesterday had I been shooting a more open choked gun. Neither the grade 2 or 3 are collector pieces. So I am going to open the chokes to suit me. Who have you gentlemen used to perform this type of service? Who would you recommend? I live in TX, but I am not opposed to shipping the barrels somewhere. Is there somone here on this board who regularly opens chokes? I do want it done right though, no hack job. Thanks, Robert.
