When I was about twelve or thirteen, my Dad answered a newspaper ad for L.C.Smiths, new. We visited a fellow near Connecticut Avenue and Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland, who showed us several 12 gauge Premier Skeet Grade Smiths, fully optioned and new, for $225 each. Even at this tender age, I recognized these guns as having been thrown together from mismatched parts. The metal fit wasn't bad, but the wood to metal fit was not good at all. We didn't buy any guns that day. Too bad. I would say that this was 1958 or 1959.
