having only recently gotten into this hobby, i don't have the expertise of some of the fine gentlemen on this site - but it appears to be a lower grade gun started in syracuse and finished by hunter arms. the receiver has the rib lines on the bottom ahead of the trigger guard, but has a hunter-style rounded corner hole for the barrel lug just ahead of the ribs. another indication is the safety mentioned by David, as well as the combination of little-to-no engraving in conjunction with the early style receiver. all syracuse hammerless guns were engraved, even my low grade (2) 1887. my father has a change-over gun as well with a unique blending of characteristics from both companies including some rather "custom" pieces (like yours has) to blend the two inventories of parts together.
