First the matter of "low pressure". Low pressure compared to what? Then there's the matter of the two types of powder behaving differently. In other words the pressure spikes occur at a different time between smokeless and black powder. Smith tubes are top quality... Even the lower grades. My belief is that damascus-type tubes on our shotguns will handle smokeless loads if they're in good condition. The problem I see is that a visual check cannot really determine true condition. So... Send the tubes to England and have them proofed. (A destructive procedure in some cases.) Use the old tire tie-down method and set her off at a safe distance. (Another potentially destructive method.) Magna-flux the tubes and pray for the best. Or sleeve the tubes to a smaller bore and never have a moment's concern. I guess you can probably tell where I stand.
