I recently acquired a 1923 20 ga. trap grade, single trigger, ejector, straight stock, featherweight, the gentleman I bought it from, Doc is 90 years olds and sharp as a tack, his dad bought the L.C. for him in 1931 when he was 12 years old, the original owner was an old counntry boy who was a pitcher for one of the univ. here in the state, Jim was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 1923 and i checked the roster for the Indians sure enough he was listed on their roster for those years, the story goes that he kept admiring this Smith in a store in Cleveland and at the end of the 1925 season the Indiand org. presented him the 20 as a bonus at the end of the season, after that he played for a couple more teams and wound up coming back home in 1931, right in the depression and probably broke, at that time he sold it to Doc's dad and Doc has had is since, Doc's kids did not care anything about firearms so he decided to sell it to me, i hope they enjoy their money as much as I enjoy pretty little 20, I just thought this was pretty neat that the history of this gun could be traced by to its origin.
