You can determine the grade, date of manufacture, and how to obtain a research letter from the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. An ad in Hunting & Fishing magazine, October 1929 stated "We have one of the best gun engravers in the world and would be glad to quote the cost of your favorite dog's portrait or favorite scene engraved on the lockplate." Could you post ultra close up pics of the engraving?
