Question on the reinforced splinterArchived Message

I have a regular frame 12 gauge Specialty, 32" with ejectors that handles really well and I use it for sporting clays once in a while. Its barrels have the reinforced splinter. I thought that was done mainly on Trap and Long Range guns? Any idea why that feature was put on regular guns once in a while? Is that more common with 32" guns than with shorter barrels? Thanks in advance for your reply. Frank
