    2 9/16" 16 gauge chambers Archived Message

I have a gun(16 gauge) that has 2 9/16" chambers. I would like to know if it is safe to shoot modern 2 3/4" shells, will they pattern properly, or would it be best to have the chambers bored out to the proper length and if so does this detract from the value of the gun. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
