The 'H' is for Hunter Special which was manufactured by Hunter Arms 1937-1945. Please check the 'Shotguns', 'FAQ', and 'Photo Trail' on the Home Page for more information. Also, it's possible that the chamber is 2 9/16" rather than 2 3/4"
