    Frank,Since nobody has responded, I'll offer my .02.
    A couple things in your description hoist red flags for me, namely "nicely figured stock" and "leather pad". I find it unusual that wood other than the normal straight grain common on Fields was used, and leather pads were special order items usually found on higher grade guns.
    My suggestion is to order a Cody letter to determine authenticity (although the letter may not help), AND put the gun in the hands of someone who is thoroughly familiar with Smiths. You may also look at the internet sites to find a comparable gun.
