    Rib Extension Repair Archived Message

Posted by Tom Breeden on March 12, 2008, 8:57 pm

I have a friend with a cracked rib extension on a Specialty Grade single barrel trap gun. The cracks are on the side and under side of the extension where it joins the barrel chamber. I am talking about the extension that is engaged by the rotary bolt. I recommended a TIG weld but in considering that I have never seen or heard of this kind of failure before I thought I would seek opinions/recommendations on this forum. We have an expert TIG welder in mind who is not a gun smith but he and we are uncertain as to whether this kind of weld will hold and whether the temperature of the weld is of concern in the area near the chamber. Any comments or recommendations would be greatly appreciated because I sold this gun to my friend.
