Maybe some body more knowledgeable will correct me, but I thought Hunter Arms changed the forend release on all guns from Ideal Grade up to the roller release because of lost forends. The Field Grade was the only one not changed unless it was an ejector gun. The only real way to tell would be to take the forend metal from the wood and look for the serial number on the end where the rear forend screws hold it on. 1914 would be the right year for the Curtis release, started I believe in 1913 until about 1919. I have a Quality 2 with the Dogs head escutcheon circa 1895 and I don't know when that stopped.
