The story of my 20 and the start of a quest. Archived Message

Last week my mom came over and handed me the receiver of a 20 gauge L.C. Smith. Thanks for all the information I got from you guys. Well today I was helping her and she told me where she found the part and I looked in the bottom of the closet and there was the the forearm with matching serial number to the receiver. She got to thinking and remembered that on new years eve 1961 they were at a friends house and my dad had been trying to talk him out the gun for a while. Apparently, after too much drinking the gentleman took the gun outside and began shooting in the air. The barrel "blew" according to my mom. Weeks later my dad traded a tent for the gun. The barrels remain a mystery.
I have taken advice from the forum members and started searching older gun shops and antique shops this week. I also mentioned my quest to the gray haired members at my Lodge and it seems they know of a former gunsmith and are checking with him. It is amazing the grins you get when you mention an L.C. Smith.
Thanks again to this forum, I am learning alot reading from the sidelines. I fear I am becoming very attached to a gun I've never fired.
