I am considering purchasing a Marlin L.C. Smith. I have several questions regarding this gun: 1.It is listed as Model 1968, a rare 16 gauge. I thought Marlin only made the 12 guage L.C. between 1968 and 1971. 2. The serial number is FWES45204. Am I wrong in thinking the FW is Feather Weight, the E is Ejectors, the S designates an L.C. after Marlin took over production. 3.When I do a serial number search using S45204, the result is a manufacture date of 1949. 4. The gun also has a beaver tail forend, I thought only the Deluxe models had that feature. Also listed as new in box.
