Ed, you're right. I left out an & and an '. It has been my personal observation, which stands to be corrected, that the W & C Scott & Son(')s(') was the most popular English gun in America in the 1870's and Parker's biggest overseas rival. Nichols and Lefever was their biggest domestic competition at that same time. The L. C. Smith / Parker rivalry would begin in earnest in the mid 80's when Smith introduced it's hammerless gun and Parker lagged behind jumping in that market.
